JOB 2:10 "... SHALL WE ACCEPT THE GOOD FROM GOD AND NOT THE BAD?"
ONE family TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE.
Hebrews 11. The Faith chapter of the Bible. If you've read it before, you know the list of "super saints" it gives from the Old Testament. As I read it this morning I became aware of something new for me. Even though these men and women had faith to move mountains, they missed out on something...
Hebrews 11:13- These all died in their faith, not having received the things promised... And 11:39- And all of these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised (ESV) These men and women of extreme faith did not receive what was promised to them, Jesus, but we did. Because of the faith of these people from long ago, and the amazing things they trusted in God to accomplish, we benefit from it. Now my question for me and you. What is our faith, or lack of faith going to give the people who are coming after us? Have a great day.

Jonah. The whole book is 4 chapters, with one minor little miracle... A man was swallowed by a fish, spit up on land and survived. And, for who knows how many readings, that has been the main focus of our attention. Well, just this once I would like to take a look at the King of Nineveh.
Jonah had just traveled the city and proclaimed that, in 40 days, Nineveh would be overthrown, and word of this reached the King in Jonah 3:6. The King was to decide how he would save his city and people. Believe it or not, leaders are leaders to protect their people, and the King of Nineveh was no different. After all, what would be the point of a King if his city was destroyed? The time for action was at hand. Unfortunately, this prophet proclaiming the destruction did not say how this would happen. Was it to be an economic downturn? An invading army? Or, even worse, a disease about to sweep the land?. But look at the King's choice. He did not call the economists, nor did he call for a draft. He didn't even call for the doctors, physicians and scientist to be working on a cure for the plague... He instead called on God... What a brave strategy for a leader. To actually humble yourself and call on God, rather than muscling your own strength together to try to save the day. People look to their leaders to see what course of action they will take at a moment of crisis. Just read Jonah 3:6-10 and look at the results when, instead of proud action, humble submission is shown. Give your situations to God, especially the tough ones; He can handle it much better than you. Have a good day. |
