  1. There is a time to fight
    1. It’s harder to learn when it’s appropriate
    2. But just because something is hard doesn’t mean we get to back down from it
  2. Speak up
    1. We are not cowards
    2. Don’t do nothing when doing the right thing is required
    3. James 4:17
    4. To know the right thing to do and not do it is sin.
  3. Help don’t hurt those in need
    1. They poor and helpless are a picture of us before Jesus came to us
    2. we deserved nothing and he stepped in to rescue us
    3. Go and do likewise

  1. God can’t lie
    1. Therefore his words can never be wrong
  2. God offers protection
    1. Therefore his protection is perfect
    2. Because if it were not then his words would be untrue
  3. He is our standard of how we should live
    1. Let our yes be yes and no be no

  1. Don’t be in constant offense
    1. If you are being corrected often, there is a deeper issue that needs to be tended to
  2. Don’t harden against correction
    1. Somebody took the risk and cared enough
    2. Offer you guidance
  3. Do this and prevent the need for you to be broken

    1. It’s a form of freedom
  2. Avoid the man afraid of trust
    1. There’s a reason he’s not willing to trust anybody
  3. Repent, confess, forgive and seek forgiveness from God

    2. Don’t live looking over your shoulder
    3. Or running from an imaginary enemy

  2. Don’t increase work for others
    1. If you are over them make their life easier
  3. Avoid being under a fool
    1. If possible don’t put yourself under the guidance of a fool.

  1. It is always better for somebody else to recognize you and your accomplishments
    1. If you have to recognize yourself, your accomplishments must not be as great as you think they are
  2. Take the humble route
    1. It will leave a more lasting impression than the arrogant
  3. Jesus gave you a great example to follow
    1. It takes somebody with great confidence to not need the praise of others
    2. And to humbly continue working

    1. No doubt about it
    2. Especially before we become believers evil looks like the way to go
  2. Don’t envy them
    1. Look beyond the immediate circumstance
    2. To the future situation
    3. Evil will not last, much less win

    1. Being near or associated with them could
    2. sweep you up into their coming punishment ​

  1. Be willing to take a different view from normal thinking and living
    1. Don’t focus you work on money, but God
  2. If wealth is your #1 goal, what is the dollar amount that will accomplish that goal?
    1. Making wealth, or anything other than Jesus, you main objective, will leave you broken
    2. Disappointed
    3. And used up
  3. Be discerning enough to cease from pursuing anything other than God
    1. Head knowledge is not the same as wisdom
    2. Wisdom requires life application of what you know to be best in your heart.

  2. Keep a healthy attitude toward hard work
    1. Don’t try to find shortcuts, work hard and uphold your good name

    1. Think about it, there are many more people mentioned in the Bible for making sacrifices
    2. Than walking in righteousness and justice.
  2. Don’t rely on a sacrifice
    1. Especially when you’re able to walk in righteousness in the first place
  3. A living example of Jesus is a better husband
    1. Than a dead example

  1. It’s a mockery
    1. It will mock others, you, and anything you’ve worked to build up
  2. Its violent
    1. It might be in the form of a fight
    2. Or it might be the violence being thrown at your body
  3. Don’t be led astray
    1. Count the cost and see if these things bring you closer to Jesus or not
    2. Do they advance His kingdom or not
    3. Your life is not yours it’s His. Live accordingly

    1. Practice staying calm in when faced with adversity
  2. Overlook offenses
    1. Your pride is not worth defending
    2. Prove them wrong by your actions and don’t fall victim to their taunts
  3. Be aware of the things to be angry about
    1. I listed some, but know those are my list for you
    2. I believe they will stand the test of the Bible
    3. But test them through the scriptures yourself

    1. Keep your words valuable
    2. So when you speak, people listen
  2. Don’t be like me and try to fit in or move up by shocking or wowing your audience
    1. Just work hard and act wisely
  3. When in doubt listen twice as much as you talk.

  1. Normal people blow up
    1. But we aren’t striving to be normal
  2. Harsh words bring out defenses
    1. A defensive structure is much harder to defeat
  3. Soft answers bring resolutions
    1. Answers provide solutions
    2. Words create problems
    3. Soft answers change the course on the way to solutions.
    4. That’s far better than harsh words changing sources of the problems

  1. Work hard
    1. All the time.
    2. Remember Colossians 3:17
    3. EVERYTHING for God
  2. Don’t lose sight of the big picture because of the little messes
    1. The mess can be cleaned by you
    2. The plow can’t be pulled by you
  3. Don’t mistake busyness as usefulness.
    1. Being useful is important
    2. But it’s only useful if the task at hand is important
    3. Definitely don’t waste your time being idle
    4. But don’t waste your time with tasks that don’t matter
    5. Advance His kingdom. ​

    1. And it’s not doing you any favors with the people around you
  2. Interactions with people that are honest and fair bring pleasure to God

    1. people are eternal, which means your impact can have eternal rewards or consequences for them.

  1. Correcting a mocker is a Waste of breath
    1. It might make you feel better to shut him up,
    2. But, it’s not prompting change in him
  2. To correct the wise is to Gain love and respect
    1. The wise man will listen, adjust, love
    2. And in the future look to your advice
  3. BUT...Which are you?
    1. Don’t assume you’re the one giving the advice/correction
    2. There will times when you are the one being rebuked
    3. How you respond to correction will reveal which of these 2 categories you belong in.

  1. I (your dad) am not your adversary
    1. I seek your good and prosperity
  2. My “stuff” isn’t the most valuable thing I can give you
    1. Which is a good thing because I don’t plan on accumulating very much of it.
  3. My talk and teaching is not cheap
    1. I am deeply invested in you and your salvation
    2. I have a strong desire to see you become a godly young man. ​
