2 Surely I am too stupid to be a man. I have not the understanding of a man.
3 I have not learned wisdom, nor have I knowledge of the Holy One.
4 Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists?
Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and what is his son's name? Surely you know!
5 Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6 Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar."

So what's the Takeaway?

Sin makes you weary
Only God is worthy of your pursuit.
1. everything else will leave you wanting.
God speaks truth
1. and anything we add is us being a liar.

So what’s the take away?

I’m sorry for where I have and will mess up with your discipline.
1. My goal was not to show my anger
Find the lesson from my correction, even if I don’t make it overtly clear
1. My goal is to encourage you to make good choices
2. Even though it may take the form of anger
Learn to make wise choices
1. And make me extremely glad

Proverbs 16:5 and 18 ~ "5 Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished."

So what’s the take away?

It comes down to this
You can walk in pride and experience humiliation of falling
or
You can walk humbly and nowhere to go but up
To put it simply:
Humble yourself or be humbled

Proverbs 9:1-6

    she has hewn her seven pillars.
2 She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine;
    she has also set her table.

    To him who lacks sense she says,

    and drink of the wine I have mixed.

Wisdom is waiting for you
1. So what are you waiting for?
There is plenty of wisdom for you
1. When you decide you want to be wise there will still be wisdom available for you
Leave your simple friends
1. You can’t sleep with dogs and not get their flees
2. Part of being wise is not being in places or around people whose decisions can harm you

Proverbs 2:5-8

Proverbs 2:5-8 ~ "5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; 7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, 8 guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints.

So what’s the take away?

Fear God
1. Your faith education begins with being in awe of the power and might of the Creator, Sustainer, Saving God
God does not have a limited supply of Wisdom
1. He still has plenty to extend to you and me, we need to ask for it, daily.
Chase Him
1. With all your might and beg for His wisdom as you go through this life.

Proverbs 20:1 ~ "Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise."

So what’s the take away?

It’s a mockery
1. It will mock others, you, and anything you’ve worked to build up
Its violent
1. It might be in the form of a fight
2. Or it might be the violence being thrown at your body
Don’t be led astray
1. Count the cost and see if these things bring you closer to Jesus or not
2. Do they advance His kingdom or not
3. Your life is not yours it’s His. Live accordingly

So what’s the take away?

Train yourself to have good sense
1. Practice staying calm in when faced with adversity
Overlook offenses
1. Your pride is not worth defending
2. Prove them wrong by your actions and don’t fall victim to their taunts
Be aware of the things to be angry about
1. I listed some, but know those are my list for you
2. I believe they will stand the test of the Bible
3. But test them through the scriptures yourself

So what’s the take away?

Words are easy to say but that doesn’t mean you should make yours worthless
1. Keep your words valuable
2. So when you speak, people listen
Don’t be like me and try to fit in or move up by shocking or wowing your audience
1. Just work hard and act wisely
When in doubt listen twice as much as you talk.

Don’t worry about where you start
1. Worry about where you’re planning to finish
Don’t waste the advantages you have
1. Don’t squander the blessings you are given
Don’t waste where you are now
1. Because you’re worried about where you want to be
2. Like it or not you are working toward your next job
3. And what you’re doing now matters
4. So use it for God’s glory

Give you work and life to God’s will
1. If you can’t, then quit what you’re doing and search for Him
God will establish your plans
1. What God has established cannot fail
It may be different than what you originally thought

Normal people blow up
1. But we aren’t striving to be normal
Harsh words bring out defenses
1. A defensive structure is much harder to defeat
Soft answers bring resolutions
1. Answers provide solutions
2. Words create problems
3. Soft answers change the course on the way to solutions.
4. That’s far better than harsh words changing sources of the problems

Work hard
1. All the time.
2. Remember Colossians 3:17
3. EVERYTHING for God
Don’t lose sight of the big picture because of the little messes
1. The mess can be cleaned by you
2. The plow can’t be pulled by you
Don’t mistake busyness as usefulness.
1. Being useful is important
2. But it’s only useful if the task at hand is important
3. Definitely don’t waste your time being idle
4. But don’t waste your time with tasks that don’t matter
5. Advance His kingdom.

Don’t be normal
1. Guard your mouth, doing so will protect much more.
Preserve your life
1. An easy thing you can practice is silence, when in doubt

1. It’s much easier to go back and say more
2. than to wish you could go back and say less

Love Discipline
1. It is clear direction to growth

1. Do not be satisfied with your current level, look to grow
2. And don’t waste the knowledge discipline can provide

1. You’re going to be discipline, it’s unavoidable
2. You might as well learn something from it.

What’s the take away?

Cheating or treating people wrong is horrible in God’s eye
1. And it’s not doing you any favors with the people around you
Interactions with people that are honest and fair bring pleasure to God
1. And will help you maintain your reputation
Do everything for God, especially your relationships with others
1. people are eternal, which means your impact can have eternal rewards or consequences for them.

What’s the take away?

Bring Joy
1. Not to have joy but to share it with others
Avoid Grieving
1. Not because it hurts you but it hurts God and others
2. You won’t have to practice avoiding pain for yourself
3. That comes naturally
No man is an island
1. Your actions will have a reaching impact on the other people in your life
2. Even if you don’t care about your life, consider the others you will effect
3. And if you are to throw your life away
4. Throw it away in pursuit of God and Jesus Christ

What’s the take away?

Correcting a mocker is a Waste of breath
1. It might make you feel better to shut him up,
2. But, it’s not prompting change in him
To correct the wise is to Gain love and respect
1. The wise man will listen, adjust, love
2. And in the future look to your advice
BUT...Which are you?
1. Don’t assume you’re the one giving the advice/correction
2. There will times when you are the one being rebuked
3. How you respond to correction will reveal which of these 2 categories you belong in.

What’s the take away?

Wisdom is not hidding from you
1. It’s all around if you are looking for it
Understanding is trying to get your attention
1. The understadning of what you see is vital to developing wisdom
Take advatage and work to properly understand the wisdom offered you
1. This will set you apart, but will require patience and work on your part

I (your dad) am not your adversary
1. I seek your good and prosperity
My “stuff” isn’t the most valuable thing I can give you
1. Which is a good thing because I don’t plan on accumulating very much of it.
My talk and teaching is not cheap
1. I am deeply invested in you and your salvation
2. I have a strong desire to see you become a godly young man.

Don’t play with sin, it’s dangerous.

Don’t ask, “how close can I get to sin?”

Instead, ask, “how close can I get to God.”

Striving to answer that question will carry you in the opposite direction.

The pursuit and practice of wisdom brings other opportunities with it.
1. Being honored and lifted up, because you have displayed wisdom and people want you to be in positions of authority in the groups I worked with.
Nobody loses their reputation by being too wise.
1. Plenty of people suffer from being foolish, but you will be hard pressed to find somebody suffering for being wise.

Truly trusting God with all your heart is hard, if not impossible
God’s knowledge and understanding dwarfs our own in unimaginable magnitude.
We can only do this through Jesus Christ, which is where wisdom comes in.
